- Henry W. Stauffer Funeral Friday - Pneumonia, Following Operation, Removes First White Child Born in Faribault County. Henry W. Stauffer, said to be the first white child born in Faribault county, passed away at the local hospital Wednesday morning after a long illness. About two weeks ago he submitted to a very serious operation but before rallying from the strain upon his strength, pneumonia set in and he passed away at 9:30 o'clock, the morning of August 17, 1932. Henry Washington Stauffer, son of William and Elizabeth Stauffer, was born in Winnebago township, Faribault county, Minn., February 3, 1857. His parents were among the earliest settlers in this community, coming here from Iowa and locating on a farm in Section 22, where Henry was born and grew to manhood. He took advantage of the educational facilities offered the pioneer children and October 3, 1883, he united in marriage with Miss Mary Z. Miller, whose home was near Amboy. For one year after their marriage they made their home on what is now know as the Buxton farm north of town, then moved to a farm west of Amboy, and lived in that vicinity until 1897, when they moved to a farm east of town, now occupied by his son Clarence. In 1911 Mrs. Stauffer became ill and lost her sight and in 1912 they retired from farming and came to Winnebago where he has made his home since. Until her death December 29, 1926, Mr. Stauffer cared for his afflicted wife as only a kind and loving husband could. During this late illness he has been as solicitously cared for by his daughter Ethel, who is home on her vacation as a teacher in the Austin schools. For the past three years, during his daughter's absence, Mr. Stauffer has been spending the winter months with his son Clarence. Mr. Stauffer is survived by his son Clarence L. and daughter Ethel G. Stauffer; three brothers and five sisters. The brothers are Marion, of Yakima, Wash.; Jud, of Eugene, Ore.; John, of Winnebago township. The sisters are Mrs. Emeline Jenkins, of Winnebago; Mrs. Amelia Spaulding, of Drain, Ore,; Mrs. Imelia Barnes, of Sheen, Minn.; Mrs. Mary Jenkins, of Eugene, Ore.; and Mrs. Edith Maxim, of Minneapolis. There are also four grandsons and two granddaughters, one great -grandson and three great- granddaughters, as well as many other relatives. Two daughters preceded him in death - Clara in 1901 and Ida in 1918. Soon after moving to the farm east of town, the entire Stauffer family united with the Methodist church, and for some years past Mr. Stauffer has been a faithful steward. Funeral services will be held Friday at the home at 1:30 p.m., and at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church with Rev. W. F. Mahle, the pastor, in charge.
