MAIER, Kathryn Jane (nee Karn) It is with deep sadness that the Maier family announces the passing of Kathryn Jane Maier (nee Karn), age 66, on March 10, 2015 at her home in Reidsville with her husband holding her hand and five children by her side. Kathy's beautiful smile, positive attitude and encouraging ways inspired so many. She worked as a primary school teacher and enjoyed being a stay at home mom. She leaves behind a wonderful family legacy. Kathy instilled a love of music in her children, which has been carried on to the next generation. She also loved to serve the Lord through daily devotions, various church committees, children's and camp ministry, mission trips, the cancer centre and St. John's Kitchen. Kathy loved flowers and many occasions were enhanced by the beautiful arrangement she created. Kathy was the beloved wife and best friend of Norm for almost forty-seven years. She is the cherished mother to Josh (Robyn) Maier of Waterloo, Jessica (Tim) Sloss of Waterloo, Nathan (Megan) Maier of Preeceville, SK, Amy Maier of Waterloo and Sarah (Tyson) Shurr of Parry Sound. Kathy and Norm were blessed with 14 grandchildren: Ella, Caleb, Jediah and Hope Maier; Nolan, Mae, Wesley and Isla Sloss; Isaiah, Leif (2014), Hudson and Levi Maier; and Percy and Norah Shurr. Kathy enjoyed a loving relationship with her parents, Irleen and Ralph Karn (1980) and her siblings: Ken and Brenda Karn, Howard and Laurie Karn, Susan and Fred Haywood, in-laws Janet and Bill Glowik, as well as many treasured nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by in-laws Fred and Clara Maier, her grandmother, Elizabeth Bowman, and grandson, Leif Maier. Kathy fought a courageous battle with cancer. Our family wishes to thank all of our neighbours, friends and church family for your thoughts and prayers. Your love shown through meals, cards, flowers and words brought us such hope and comfort. Our belief that Kathy is now with Jesus has brought us peace. We also wish to thank the health care team at Grand River Hospital Cancer Suite, Oncology Floor and Homecare for their compassion and professionalism. Visitation will be at the Plattsville Evangelical Missionary Church (19 Albert Street E., Plattsville ON) on Friday, March 13th from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. A funeral service will take place at the church on Saturday, March 14th at 11:00 a.m. There is a reception to follow. Donations to the P.E.M.C. mission fund or St. John's Kitchen can be made through the Glendinning Funeral Home (www.gffh.ca).
