- Born January 23, 1935, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on January 25, 2024 at Winston Park, Kitchener Ontario.
Beloved wife of Terry Fox. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage together.
Mother of Murray (Sheri), Linda (Tim) Lanesmith. Cherished and much loved by four granddaughters, Emily (Spencer Fulton), Allison (Alex Buehlow), Maya, and Jillian. Elaine is also survived by sister, Ruth Schaus; brother, Ross (Jackie) Woolner. Predeceased by parents, Vernon and Orpah (Shantz) Woolner; sister, Myrtle Mae (in infancy); brother, Lyall; and sister and brother-in-law, Fern and Reverend Bob Duthie.
Elaine grew up on a farm in Mannheim and became a teacher at the age of 18. She taught in Cambridge (Galt) for seventeen years. During that time, Elaine and Terry married and settled in Kitchener. When they decided to start a family, mom felt it was important to devote her time to caring for her family, becoming a celebrated maker of lemon loaf and a variety of baked goods.
Throughout her life, Elaine was an active member of her church choirs, including Lincoln Avenue United Church and Highland Road United Church.
Elaine enjoyed entertaining a variety of family and friends at Chesley Lake Camp. For close to 25 years, she looked after the flower garden outside of the Hallman Chapel at the camp.
The family would like to extend their thanks for the care and support they received from the staff at Winston Park.
Elaine's family will receive relatives and friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30th, at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Visitation will continue from 9:30-10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
Following the visitation, the memorial service will take place in the chapel of the funeral home, followed by a reception.
Private interment will take place at Williamsburg Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer's Society or the local food bank would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
