Text | Isaac Stauffer Dies Suddenly - Mr. Stauffer Was One of the Early Settlers of Winnebago Township - Funeral Held Saturday. While engaged in sawing logs at the J. E. Mereness home last Thursday afternoon, Isaac Stauffer, one of Winnebago's prominent citizens, fell to the ground and died almost instantly. Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at the late home and later at Basey church, by Dr. A. C. Hageman and Rev. P. W. Barker. Interment was made in the Basey cemetery. Isaac, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Stauffer, was born in Butler, Butler county, Pennsylvania, February 22, 1862. In 1872 Isaac, with his parents, came to this state and settled on a farm in Faribault county, where he resided with his parents, until his marriage, November 18, 1892, when he was united in marriage with Estella Hillman, who preceded him in death August 23, 1925. To this union two children were born, George and Leda. In 1917 Mr. Stauffer, with his family, moved to Winnebago, where he resided until the time of his death, December 10, 1925. In early life Mr. Stauffer united with the Presbyterian church, later, with his wife, transferring their membership to the Pleasant Prairie United Brethren church. There are left to mourn his passing two children, George and Leda; four brothers and sisters, Henry, Samuel, Sarah and Mary. Isaac was a good man and a splendid neighbor. Wherever distress of sorrow was, he was there to offer help. Whether his skies were bright or cloudy, he always wore a smile. He was tireless in his work for humanity. In business his word was unquestionable. He was a friend to all and will not soon be forgotten. | |
