Letter From Barnardos

According to our records, your grandmother, Daisy Emma Brand, was born on 16 February 1879 at Stifford, Essex, She was admitted to Barnardo's on 24 February 1891 with her two sisters, Bessie Violet Brand, born on 21 September 1880, and Annie May Brand, born on 30 August 1884.

Their mother was recorded as dying in child birth on 28 January 1886, at the age of 36 years. Unfortunately, her name was not mentioned in the Admission History.

Their father was recorded as John Thomas Brand, aged 41 years, who was employed as a blacksmith and lived in West Thurrock, Essex,

Their brothers were recorded as Herbert Percival, aged 16 years, who was living with Mr Hetherington, a blacksmith at Plaistow, East London, and William Henry, aged 14 years, who was living with Inspector Ellis at 14 St George's Terrace, West Thurrock, Essex,

On 24 February 1891, Daisy, Bessie and Annie were admitted to Barnardo's and entered the Receiving House, Stepney Causeway, East London. On 26 March 1891, they went to the Girl's Village Home, Barkingside, Essex. On 13 October 1892, Daisy, Bessie and Annie sailed to Canada aboard SS Sardinian and arrived on 24 October 1892. Unfortunately, the place of their arrival was not recorded.
