- Louis (Louie) John Bindl passed away on May 2, in Urie. He was born to Norbert and Marian Bindl on June 11, 1940, in Carter. Louie attended elementary school in a one-room schoolhouse in Carter and finished his high school education in Mountain View. As a young man he was employed as a sheepherder and enjoyed trapping.
"Louie" joined the military in May 1962 and immediately went to Naval Station San Diego. From there he went to Great Lakes, Illinois and from there he went and served in the Vietnam War as a motorboat driver.
After returning from the service he went back once again to herding sheep and trapping and being a "cowboy." He became good friends with many people in the area.
In 1963 he married Elaine Rickert, and they began their life together in a cozy little sheep camp, herding sheep in Uinta County. Later they moved to Mountain View where Louie became a Range Detective for the Sheriff's Department. He was active in and continued to remain active in the American Legion.
As part of Louie's job he was very active in "Search and Rescue" and several stories have been shared about his adventures. If you were lost, "Louie" was the one to call – he was known as Search and Rescue. You were never alone in the hills, he always had your back whether you knew it or not.
He is survived by his brother Edward Sr. (Claudia) Bindl, of Post Falls, Idaho; and sisters Bonnie Dahlquist, of Pocatello, Idaho and Nancy Scholz, of Raeford, North Carolina; sisters-in-law Vernita Bindl, of Manila, Utah, Delean Bindl and step-brother Butch Irving, of Lander; brother-in-law Phillip (Pam) Snow of Urie; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
He is preceded in death by his wife Elaine (Rickert) Bindl; his parents Norbert Bindl and Marian (Bindl) Irving; and two brothers, Halley Bindl and Ronald Bindl.
