James Lyons - Obituary
Obituary
The city today mourned the loss of one of its outstanding citizens.
James Lyons, a former cabinet minister and mayor, passed away yesterday
at his home at the age of 69 after a lengthy illness. Mr. Lyons was born
in the town of Virginia, Ont., on August 26, 1878, the son of James Lyons
and Sarah Ann (Horner) Lyons, and came to the Sault at the turn of the
century.
He began his business career as a superintendent in the paper mill in
1902, entered the mercantile trade as a butcher, and followed in successive
years as a grocer, boot and shoe salesman, real estate and insurance salesman.
In 1912 he organized Lyons Fuel, Hardware and Supplies Ltd., the firm
which now encompasses a hardware business and a building and contracting
establishment.
