Recollections

Uncle Altie

Uncle Altie married Aunt Addie. He was a school teacher in Bright. He died a very young man of T. B. (I think). In fact Uncle Altie taught my father William Lake in Bright. Uncle Altie's children were Harry, Mildred, Barbara and Gordon. Aunt Addie and her four children lived with her family until the children were in their early to middle teens. Aunt Addie at that time married Mr. Vail (We never called him anything but Mr. Vail). They lived on a farm near Paris. By that time Grandpa and Grandma Key had retired to Paris from the farm in Scotland. They were very fond of Aunt Addie and there was a good relationship between them.

Uncle Altie's family, Harry lived with Aunt Nettie in Flint for sometime. He married Rose ? And I think they had two children. He worked in Detroit with a milk company (Silverwoods?). Mildred was a teacher and married Mr. Cecil Brown. They ran a restaurant and service station in ?. They had no children. She died quite young. I remember her as one of my favorite cousins with ghost stories when we all met and Grandma and Grandpa Key's for Christmas,

Barbara was a nurse in Hamilton and died quite young with cancer. She never married.

Gordon was a handsome man. He lived with Aunt Nettie too for a few years and then moved to California and lived with Aunt Lou. He was passed (sic) marrying age but did marry. The last I heard of him he was very old and senile and must surely be dead by now because he was several years older than I am. He had no children. He lived on Yonge St. In Toronto in an apartment.

Our research is ongoing and the validity of the information presented should be judged by the quality of our sources.

Our study includes our ancestors and their descendants (our cousins) and our cousins' spouses and their parents. The parents of our cousins' spouses will show as "A descendant is related to Susan or Barry" and their other children will not be included unless they are connected to our family.
